Southwark Cathedral, London
Situated in the heart of historic London, just steps from Borough Market and London Bridge, Southwark Cathedral is far more than a place of worship — it is one of the city’s most atmospheric and majestic concert venues. As the oldest Gothic church in London, with origins dating back to the 12th century, every arch and stained glass window carries the weight and wonder of centuries past.
Acoustically, Southwark Cathedral is widely regarded as one of the finest venues in the capital for choral, sacred, and chamber music. Its soaring vaulted ceilings and stone architecture create a natural resonance of remarkable clarity and depth, allowing every note to linger and unfold with grace. This is a space where music breathes — timeless, powerful, and profoundly moving.
The Cathedral’s main Nave can accommodate up to 700 guests and offers an exceptional setting for both grand symphonic performances and intimate candlelit evenings. Architecturally stunning, the venue boasts majestic columns, Gothic detailing, and rich stained glass, all gently illuminated to create an unforgettable visual and emotional experience.
Southwark Cathedral is not merely a venue — it is a symbol. A space where music, history, and sacred beauty converge in one of the world’s most culturally vibrant cities. Hosting a concert here is more than a choice of location; it is a tribute to London’s grandeur and its deep-rooted tradition of artistic excellence.
Step-free access to Southwark Cathedral is available every day from the Millennium Courtyard off Montague Close, with the Nave reached by a platform lift and ramps into the South Transept; a passenger lift and a platform lift serve the building and a wheelchair is available on site if needed. Two accessible toilets (RADAR-key, with baby-change) are in the precinct, and an induction loop operates in the Nave and the Garry Weston Library. Assistance dogs are welcome at all times and water can be provided; accessible parking is around five minutes away at Clink Street or Stoney Street. For any access questions, email cathedralaccess@southwark.anglican.org or speak to a Welcome Host.
