Sound Took Shape in Dublin: Universe of Neoclassics Debuts with Contemporary Ballet

We have successfully presented the Ireland premiere of Universe of Neoclassics: Contemporary Music & Dance — a new programme where contemporary classical music meets the language of modern ballet.

The performance took place on 23 April at O’Reilly Theatre in Dublin, the cultural heart of Belvedere College and one of the city’s most elegant artistic venues. For one evening, the theatre became a space where sound, movement and emotion unfolded as one continuous story.

At the centre of the programme was the renowned Mystery Ensemble, whose interpretation of neoclassical works was enriched by contemporary choreography created by Riccardo Ardusso from Italy, with support and supervision from Ilaria Giardina. This new format opened a fresh perspective on the music: the audience was invited not only to listen, but to see how rhythm, tension and silence can be translated through the body.

The evening featured works by Ludovico Einaudi, Hans Zimmer, Max Richter, Ólafur Arnalds, Michael Nyman and Enya — composers whose music has already become part of the emotional landscape of the 20th and 21st centuries. Pieces such as Time, Experience, Divenire, Only Time and themes from Interstellar and Pirates of the Caribbean formed a programme rich in cinematic scale, intimacy and atmospheric detail.

With this Dublin debut, our new programme showed that the classics of our time can be experienced not only through sound, but through presence, gesture and breath.
