Classical music has never truly stood still. Every generation finds new ways to reshape it, and today two composers have become central to one of its most fascinating transformations: Ludovico Einaudi and Max Richter.
Their music exists somewhere between the concert hall and the modern world. Piano melodies, strings and electronic textures are combined with an extraordinary sense of space, creating compositions that can feel intimate and cinematic at the same time. Their work has shown that contemporary classical music does not need to abandon simplicity to be ambitious — sometimes a few carefully chosen notes can carry an entire emotional landscape.
Max Richter has become particularly known for reimagining the past. His Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons takes one of the most recognisable works in classical music and rebuilds it through repetition, fragments and modern textures. Familiar melodies remain, but their meaning seems to shift, as if an old painting had suddenly begun moving.
Einaudi follows a different path, creating music that often feels almost weightless. His minimalist piano language has reached audiences far beyond traditional classical circles, becoming part of the soundtrack of contemporary life.
These two musical worlds meet across our programmes: Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons, Tribute to Max Richter and Tribute to Ludovico Einaudi, as well as Sounds of the Universe: Zimmer, Richter, Einaudi and Interstellar: Tribute to Hans Zimmer.
