This August, The Music of The Lord of The Rings: Tribute to Howard Shore opened the doors to Middle-earth in two new UK cities.
On 8 August, Mystery Ensemble brought the programme to Carlisle for the very first time. The concert marked a new chapter for the city and another destination for a programme that continues to connect audiences with the musical world of Tolkien. Howard Shore’s themes filled the concert space with the familiar landscapes of the Shire, the darkness of Mordor and the courage of the Fellowship.
Just two weeks later, on 22 August, Middle-earth travelled to Newcastle. The response was extraordinary: both concert sessions sold out, bringing a full house together for an evening of music from one of cinema’s most beloved worlds.
Performed in original arrangements, Shore’s score takes on a life of its own away from the screen. Without the images of the films, familiar themes become landscapes, characters and memories, leaving every listener free to imagine their own journey through Middle-earth.
From Carlisle to Newcastle, these concerts marked two new points on our map and another reminder that some stories never really end. Sometimes, all it takes to return to Middle-earth is a single familiar note.
