On 24 July, we brought The Music of The Lord of The Rings: Tribute to Howard Shore to Limerick for the very first time, opening the doors of Mount Saint Alphonsus Church onto another world.
For one evening, music replaced maps. The warmth of the Shire, the gathering darkness of distant kingdoms and the quiet courage at the heart of Tolkien’s story emerged through Howard Shore’s unforgettable compositions. Performed by Mystery Ensemble in original arrangements, the score moved from intimate, fragile passages to themes of sweeping cinematic scale.
Without a screen to dictate the story, every listener was free to find their own path through Middle-earth. Familiar melodies became landscapes, memories and characters, proving once again that Shore’s music possesses a narrative power entirely of its own.
The Limerick premiere marked a new destination for one of our most beloved programmes. Sometimes, crossing into another world requires no magic ring — only the first note.
