Mozarts Kleine Nachtmusik erklang zum ersten Mal in Zürich

On 7 June, we presented W.A. Mozart: Little Night Serenade by Ensemble Sinfonietta Bern in Zurich for the first time. The concert took place at Helferei Kapelle, a historic venue in the heart of the Old Town, where the closeness of the space gave Mozart’s music an especially vivid, immediate character.

This was a programme built around light, clarity and pure musical vitality. Mozart’s Little Night Serenade, one of his most recognisable works, sounded not like a distant classical monument, but like music full of movement, wit and sparkle — still fresh, still smiling, still capable of surprising the room.

In the intimate atmosphere of Helferei Kapelle, the audience could hear every detail of the strings — the quick turns, the warm resonance, the sudden flashes of energy. The programme revealed Mozart not only as a master of grace, but as a composer with drive, rhythm and an almost theatrical sense of timing.

The Zurich premiere became a warm and luminous opening for this programme in the city: an hour of music that brought the Old Town closer to Vienna, and reminded everyone how electrifying Mozart can still be.
