Stephen Allen — Bass-baritone

Originally from Leicester and based in Oxford since 2000, Stephen Allen is a versatile bass-baritone with a rich background in choral and ensemble singing. After studying piano from an early age, his vocal journey began as a boy chorister with the choir of St James the Greater under Dr Timothy Lees, later developing as a counter-tenor before settling into his current vocal range. His early choral experiences included tours across America and Europe. Stephen studied music at Cardiff University and has been an active contributor to Oxford’s vibrant choral scene, performing with numerous choirs, chamber groups, and small ensembles, as well as undertaking solo work. From 2011 to 2023, he served as Director of Music at St Michael & All Angels, Summertown. He currently directs The Liturgy Singers, a project choir that reunites annually to sing at Beverley Minster and other historic cathedrals. Stephen has also led vocal workshops and previously ran a barbershop sextet in Leicester, showcasing his broad musical interests and leadership.
