A proposito della sede

Chichester Cathedral stands at the historic heart of the city of Chichester, with foundations dating back to 1075. Distinguished by its elegant Norman and Gothic architecture, the Cathedral is uniquely characterised by its separate medieval bell tower — a rare feature among English cathedrals — and its graceful spire rising above the Sussex skyline.

Inside, the Cathedral reveals a luminous and contemplative atmosphere. Romanesque arches, delicate Gothic detailing, and striking modern artworks — including works by Marc Chagall and Graham Sutherland — create a dialogue between centuries of sacred and artistic expression. The interior is spacious yet welcoming, offering both grandeur and intimacy in equal measure.

Renowned for its exceptional acoustics, Chichester Cathedral provides an inspiring setting for choral masterpieces, orchestral programmes, organ recitals, and immersive candlelit performances. The resonance of the stone architecture allows music to unfold with clarity, warmth, and profound emotional depth.

With generous capacity and a deeply rooted musical tradition, Chichester Cathedral offers a venue where history, art, and sound converge — a timeless setting for unforgettable cultural experiences in the heart of West Sussex.

Accessibilità

Chichester Cathedral has step-free, level access through the South West Door, with ramps throughout the precincts and step-free access to most areas including the Nave, Lady Chapel, Cloisters and cafe; removable ramps are available for the Quire. Two wheelchairs can be borrowed free of charge on a first-come basis, there is an accessible toilet in the Cathedral (plus one in the Cloisters Kitchen & Garden), and a hearing loop is available during services. A limited number of free disabled parking spaces sit on the approach via West Street for blue badge holders. Please speak to the welcome desk, a volunteer or a verger, who will be on hand to assist.
