On 2 May, we held our first concert in Bolton, bringing Interstellar: Tribute to Hans Zimmer by Mystery Ensemble to the atmospheric Bolton Parish Church, also known as St Peter’s, in the historic heart of the town.
For this debut evening, we chose one of our most immersive programmes — a tribute to the music Hans Zimmer created for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. In the church’s resonant space, the soundtrack’s sense of scale, solitude and quiet tension found a powerful new setting.
Performed by Mystery Ensemble, Zimmer’s music was reimagined for a unique combination of electronic and acoustic instruments. Pieces such as Dreaming of the Crash, Mountains, Day One, S.T.A.Y. and Cornfield Chase unfolded with a different kind of intensity in live performance, moving between vast cinematic energy and intimate human emotion.
For us, the first concert in Bolton became an important new step in our UK programme. Bolton Parish Church gave the evening a strong sense of place: solemn, spacious and deeply atmospheric.
