HOLY WEEK IN EDINBURGH: PERGOLESI’S STABAT MATER RECEIVES ITS CITY PREMIERE AT QUEEN’S HALL

This Easter season, we bring to Edinburgh a work that seems to belong not simply to the calendar, but to the inner atmosphere of the week itself: Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, presented at Queen’s Hall as the Edinburgh premiere of this programme.

There are scores that ask to be heard at the right moment of year. For us, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater is one of them. Written in the final weeks of the composer’s life and forever bound to Easter, it carries that rare double light of sacred music: sorrow, held with tenderness; grief, transformed into clarity. In 2026, as the work reaches its 290th anniversary, this Edinburgh premiere feels less like a revival than a return to its natural season.

We thank everyone who joined us for this special evening in Edinburgh, and warmly wish all those celebrating a peaceful and happy Easter.
