Giacomo Tora: Bach, Liszt, Debussy

Join us on April 13th at 7 pm at one of the first purpose-built concert halls in Europe — the Holywell Music Room, as we proudly present our new programme «Baroque to Romanticism» by the talented Italian pianist Giacomo Tora, and take you on a journey through the different eras of classical music.

The concert programme unfolds like a story in two parts, each with its own flavour. The first half begins with Bach’s Aria Variata, exploring his first set of variations written in the Italian Baroque style, showcasing the richness and sophistication of the musical world.

Following this, Liszt’s Après une lecture du Dante, a title inspired by Victor Hugo, takes listeners on a powerful exploration inspired by Hugo’s reflections on Dante’s Inferno.

Moving on to the second half, Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Cipressi sets a more contemplative tone, resonating with the melancholic beauty often associated with cypress trees.

This journey seamlessly blends with Debussy’s preludes, particularly La Terrasse des Audiences au clair de lune and Ce qu’a vu le vent d’ouest, transporting you into a dreamy and atmospheric mood.

For the grand finale, L’Isle Joyeuse injects a contrasting yet complementary energy, infusing the concert with joyful energy and leaving the listener in a cheerful mood. Together, these compositions promise a diverse and emotionally resonant musical journey for the audience.
